Molluscum is not confined to any geographical location and can be found all throughout the world. It is more common in hot, humid areas where living conditions are more crowded. Statistics say that Molluscum is on the rise in the United States since 1966, but these results are not completely accurate. The problem is that most of these Molluscum infections are not closely monitored because they are rarely serious and many times disappear without ever being treated.
Do not be shocked if you know or have a family member that becomes infected with the Molluscum virus. It is most common among children from 1-10 years of age. Individuals with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of getting molluscum and the nodules may look different by being larger and much more difficult to treat.
